Rajya Sabha Elections for 24 Seats Today

Date:

Elections for 24 Rajya Sabha seats in ten states will take place today. The credibility of BJP and Congress veterans is at stake in this. Both parties held meetings with their MLAs on the eve of the election. The BJP has spoiled the Congress game in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, while the Congress has an edge in Manipur.

Congress is assuming that it will get one seat each in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. The party has already sent strategists to the respective states to avoid cross voting. The results of the election will be received only this evening.

In Rajasthan, both Congress and BJP has numbers where they can easily get 2 seats each, however after BJP declaring third candidate, situation has worsened and to prevent any horse trading, both the parties have shifted their MLAs to resort.

Madhya Pradesh has four candidates for the 3 seats. While Congress has Digvijaysingh and Phool Singh Baraiya as its candidate, BJP has given tickets to Jyotiraditya Scindia and Sumer Singh Solanki. However, with 22 Scindia supporters joining the hands of BJP, equation has changed drastically and its almost sure that the two BJP candidates will win easily.
