Not only has China taken a firm stand not to retreat from Pengong Lake area, but now it has conditioned the withdrawal of Finger-2 of the Indian Army first. The Indian side is not willing to accept it. At present, the Chinese Army is standing in the area from Finger-5 to Finger-8 while the Indian Army is close to Finger-4.
The Chinese army had moved up to Finger-4 and soldiers from both countries had come face to face. In July, the Chinese army withdrew from several locations, including Finger-4, after military commanders agreed to the negotiations. She retreated from Finger-4 to Finger-5, while Finger-8 is from India.
Sources say that the new condition of China in this case is making it difficult. China wants the Indian Army to retreat to Finger-2 first. China’s effort is to make the entire finger area a buffer zone, where no country’s army remains. The Indian Army has always been present till Finger-2 and has been patrolling regularly till Finger Eight. This area is about seven-eight kilometers. Government sources said that China’s move could be a strategy to declare the finger area as a disputed area, which cannot be accepted at all.
Due to this attitude of China in the meeting of military commanders on Sunday, the situation of confrontation remained and no concrete result could be reached. According to sources, the Indian side wants China to restore the status of April, in which it will have to retreat from Finger-8. India can return to its old position on Finger-2 after it is removed, but will not back down from it.
