Coronavirus pandemic which started in Wuhan, China has dismantled countries. With daily increase in deaths all over the world, the infections are on the hike too. As every crisis needs a scapegoat, in the case of coronavirus there are multiple. But the question that arise is that who is accountable for this pandemic ?
COVID-19 started percolating in China at the end of last year. The Chinese hid the fact that COVID-19 could be passed from human to human, they even censored search engines so people couldn’t get unfiltered information about the virus. They destroyed evidence of the outbreak risking lives.
If we’d known from the start that COVID-19 could be passed between humans, and that asymptomatic patients could spread the disease, then there was a fair chance to tackle the spread. But instead of alerting the world, the Chinese worked to cover up anything having to do with the virus, including bleaching the wet market and hid evidence that people could carry and spread the virus without showing any symptoms.
According to reports, the Wuhan Institute of Virology and other labs in China had been doing speculative research on how bat coronaviruses can jump to humans.Could one of those engineered viruses have escaped a lab?
“Pandemic is not a word to use lightly or carelessly. It is a word that, if misused, can cause unreasonable fear, or unjustified acceptance that the fight is over, leading to unnecessary suffering and death,” said Director General of WHO. Organisation held a meeting on 23 January 2020, which came with a conculsion that it is too early to declare a pandemic outbreak.
World Health Organisation (WHO) had also been accused of taking the situation lightly and not ensuring the containment of the virus through awareness procedures.
If we look closely, the virus spread could had been stopped, it’s just the biased decisions and tardiness to declare the disease a pandemic we might have controlled it more than what we are seeing now.
Today total 12.5 million infections and 560 thousand deaths the Covid- 19 have been reported and the continues to infect. With over 3.29 million cases in US followed by Brazil with 1.84 million and around 850 thousand cases in India
