25 June, the day when Team India created history. On this day, 37 years ago, in 1983, Indian team under the leadership of Kapil Dev, defeated the two time world champion to win its maiden World Cup Title.
At the historic ground of Lord’s, Team India had swept the team full of veterans like Gordon Greenidge, Clive Lloyd and Vivian Richardson in the summit final for just 140 runs.
When the Indian team was going to England to play the World Cup, it was not itself expecting that the cup would be in their hands. Prior to 1983, India played two World Cups and won only one match in both the tournaments.
June 25 was the date of the examination in front of Team India, considered dwarf in front of the deadly bowlers of West Indies. The team led by Captain Kapil Dev descended. Playing first, then in the 60-over match, Team India could play only 54.4 overs could score 183 runs.
The adventure started from here. Before the start of the West Indies innings, the West Indies team was sunk in the celebration, the whole world was assuming that Team India would be the runners-up.

Kapil Dev became the hero of by taking the catch of Richards’ after running 80 yards backwards, which proved to be the turning point of the match.
