Captain Amarinder government of Punjab has taken a big step in view of the increasing cases of Coronavirus. The state government has now fixed the rate of Covid-19 treatment for private hospitals. According to the government, the maximum fee for isolation ward without ventilator has been fixed at ten thousand rupees per day. Admission fees including oxygen and medical assistant are also included in this fee. For NABH accredited hospitals, these fees have been kept at 9 thousand rupees per day.
These fees have been fixed by the committee headed by former director of Chandigarh PGI KK Talwar. According to the government, now private hospitals will not be able to charge more than 8 thousand rupees per day for the treatment of patients with mild symptoms of corona. If a hospital charges more money than the fixed fees, action will be taken against it.
At the same time a maximum fee of Rs 18 thousand has been fixed for serious patients needing ventilators by the Punjab government. PPE cost has also been included in this. Significantly, this decision has been taken after several complaints by the state government. Many patients had complained that private hospitals were charging an arbitrary price for the treatment of corona.
Earlier, while hearing a case, supreme court has refused to give any guidelines for regulation of hospital fee for corona patients.
So far, a total of 8799 cases of corona have been reported in Punjab, out of which 5867 have been cured. The number of active cases is 2711. A total of 221 people have lost their lives due to the epidemic.
