Mysore Paints and Varnish

Mysore Paints and Varnish Limited is a company based in Mysore, India. It is the only company in India authorized to produce indelible ink, which is used in elections to prevent people from voting multiple times. The company was started as Mysore Lac and Paints Limited by the Maharaja of Mysore, Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar in 1937 to manufacture paints and related products. It became a public sector company when India gained independence in 1947. In 1962, it was chosen to make indelible ink, which was first used in the third general election in India. The manufacturing process is a closely guarded secret and is based on a chemical formula devised by India’s National Physical Laboratory.
The interesting thing about this is that Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation stone of NPL on 4 January 1947.
This company has improved so much that since 1962 there has been no substitute for this ink.
Ink was used for the first time in the Lok Sabha elections in 1962 and has since been used in every parliamentary election and almost every assembly and local elections.
Each bottle can be used for 700 fingers. In 1978, the company exported its product to Singapore. MPVL now exports indelible ink to more than 25 countries and has been profitable in the public sector for nearly years. The company has been growing steadily for a long time now. MPVL had an annual turnover of ₹ 16 crore last financial year and earned a profit of ₹ 191 lakh.
Bottles of indelible ink used for elections have gone to more than 25 countries since 1978. We are proud to say that our Karnataka state has it. This will be a part of the Congress which has put in place several programs to boost the economy as the flagship of India.
