Gorur Dam Hemavathi Reservoir

Date:

In 1969, Virendra Patil assumed power as the Congress Chief Minister, then HN Nanje Gowda of Arakalagud submitted a proposal for the Goruru Dam, which had earlier been the dream of AG Ramachandra Rao. Virender Patil says that the public opinion is that the complaint is the water is being lost from the stream in this part and is not benefiting any kind of irrigated land. He explains that if a dam is built in the Arakalagudu area, irrigation projects can be done with the stream water that is flowing to the people, which can be useful for fishing also. Convinced that the financial system for the project is not proper, SF Iyengar, who was previously the editor of Hassan’s representative newspaper, has submitted a proposal that if a system called lottery is made to collect resources for the Karnataka state government treasury, it will help to collect money for projects that will be useful to the common people. As per the proposal, the lottery system of Karnataka State agrees to fund the public utility projects.Ramakrishna Hegde ,Devaraj U, R Gundu Rao all were very delighted about the dam and released funds during their tenure of power to implement the project.HN Nanje Gowda’s will is what makes this project going. Mr. Virendra Patil who was the then Chief Minister tried to provide water to the semi hilly plains and mud seeme plains which were interior lands by his will power. At that time late G Puttaswamy Gowda and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda tried to implement the plan for the people of Hassan Holenarasipur Channarayapattana part. Most of the Nanje Gowdas, who was very keen and emphasized, fell behind the project thinking that it would benefit us as they are Arakalagudu provincial lands. Even after the construction of the dam was completed in 1978, works began to be carried out on the maps of canals and canals as per AG Ramachandra’s maps. Then HD Deve Gowda, a prominent leader in Hassan’s politics, systematically took up the task of draining the water with the help of engineers. But the people of the village of HalliMysore still complain that our part did not get water. It is a sad fact that there is no irrigation system in the Halli Mysuru section of the village, which is only 13 kilometers away from the water of Gorur. In 1992 lift irrigations projects helped the dam project
