More than 600 personnel of Uttarakhand Police has contracted to Covid. This was announced by Uttarakhand Police DGP Ashok Kumar during a media briefing.
The statement has come at a time when the next holy bath of Kumbh is scheduled tomorrow on occassion of Chaitra Purnima.
Ever since the onset of second wave of Corona, people have been criticising the central and the state government for organising Kumbh Mela in such a time of adversity. People have requested the CM to cancel the mela, which is one of the largest gathering of people in the world. Many have raised the red flags, that it could lead to increase in Corona cases in the country, however it was not stopped even after the death of Mahamandleshwar Kapil Dev of Nirvani Akhada.
PM Modi, too has earlier urged the chiefs of all Akhadas to suspend the Mahakumbh, but his advice fell on deaf ears.
Uttarakhand has reported 4,368 Covid cases in the past 24 hours including 44 deaths.
