Last year, a large marketing company was accused of leaking private data of 49 million Instagram users. The company is under the scanner of the Mumbai Crime Branch investigation in the fake followers case. The team of Senior Inspector Sachin Vaze has so far arrested two accused in this case. Statements of more than one and a half dozen people have been taken. These include the CEO of this marketing company and his wife’s names.
Mumbai Crime Branch says that 100 to 150 Bollywood celebrities have come under scrutiny in their investigation. Among them are two Bollywood actresses. The case opened after a complaint by singer Bhumi Trivedi and actress Konika Mitra at the crime branch.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has said that there are many PR agencies that give fake followers to many people, especially Bollywood people. Bollywood people increase their publicity through fake followers. According to Deshmukh, the police is also investigating the case from the angle related to troll angle and data theft.
