Gujarat HC Bench That Criticised Govt Changed Abruptly

Date:

Criticising BJP governance these days is proving painful not only for an individual or a political party, but a High Court Bench as well. The Gujarat High Court Special Bench, which criticised the state government for inept handling of the corona crisis has been changed abruptly. The Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court Vickram Nath replaced the bench comprising Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice IJ Vora, with a new bench comprising himself and Justice JB Pardiwala.

Earlier this week, the bench has come down heavily on the state government for mishandling the crisis as the corona cases in Ahmedabad district neared 1,000 mark. The bench also criticised the condition of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital calling it ‘pathetic’ and termed the hospital to be ‘as good as a stinking dungeon or even worse’.

The bench did slam Health Minister Nitin Patel and Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Jayanti Ravi for poor monitoring of health care facilities.

Out of the 764 deaths in Ahmedabad, about 400 have died at city’s Civil Hospital alone.
