At a time, when Delhi has more than 56,000 corona cases with more than 2,000 deaths so far and the situation worsening every single day, Delhi government’s own assessment till July 31 to treat coronavirus patients as many as 80,000 hospital beds will be required whereas only 9,000 hospital beds are available at present.
While there had been reports of patients dying outside the hospitals due to the lack of beds, dependency on private hospitals has led the private hospitals earn millions in a time of pandemic. It may seem at one instance that the Delhi government seem to be helpless in dealing with Corona pandemic, this news may surprise you.
Delhi has two hospitals namely Baba Ambedkar Hospital in Dakshin Puri and Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka that are ready but are not being utilised by Delhi government.
Taking over the issue, Delhi Congress President Anil Kumar Chaudhary has questioned the Kejriwal government for the reason of not using these two hospitals. In a statement, the PCC President said, “Who is going to take the responsibility for Covid19 deaths in the national capital? Had these 2,300 bed hospitals been ready, the Rs 8-10 lakh package in private hospitals been saved.” He further said that he has written twice about this to the city government, but all went in vain.
