Congress Likely to Get its New President Today

Date:

Today is the meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC). At this meeting, the party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi looks set to announce her exit. Let me tell you that the demand for the election of full-time president in the Congress Party has been intensified for some time. Many leaders also wrote a letter to the high command regarding this.

The letter was signed by former Chief Ministers as well as Congress MPs. The letter accused the 134-year-old party of indecisiveness. The leaders who signed the letter were signed by Kapil Sibal, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Shashi Tharoor, Bhupinder Hooda, Milind Deora, Manish Tiwari and PJ Kurien. It was delivered to Sonia Gandhi’s residence at 10, Janpath, Delhi on Independence Day.

According to the information received, Sonia Gandhi also replied a few days later to one of the leaders who signed the letter. According to two senior Congress leaders, Sonia Gandhi said that Congress leaders should work together to find a new president, as she no longer wants to take the responsibility of leading the party.

Sonia Gandhi became the interim president of the Congress after Rahul Gandhi stepped down as Congress President in May 2019. Rahul Gandhi resigned from the post, taking responsibility for the defeat of the Congress in the Lok Sabha elections.
