The ruling Congress party has catapulted forward in the Rajasthan Panchayat elections; winning 670 Panchayat Samiti seats out of the 1564 seats. The BJP managed to win 550 seats. The polling was held in six districts in three phases. The counting of votes began Saturday morning at the six district headquarters and till 3:30 PM, results for 1389 seats were announced.
The Congress has also won the one seat of Zila Parishad in Jodhpur. Other than Congress and BJP, RLP managed to win 39 seats, BSP 10 seats and NCP won two seats. The State Election Commission reported 64.40 per cent turnout in the three-phased Panchayat election. The Congress continued to maintain its dominance in the state despite the factional troubles it has faced recently between the Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and former Deputy CM Sachin Pilot.
