Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member P Chidambaram alleged that the BJP government was protecting the PM Cares fund from investigation. The former finance minister also questioned the creation of this fund. The Congress leader tweeted, “It is clear that the BJP government is deliberately trying to protect the PM-Cares fund from scrutiny.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Chidambaram had said that the Supreme Court’s decision on the PM Cares Fund was about its legal aspect and the apex court did not get an opportunity to pass on decisions like transparency and management related to the fund.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to direct the Center to transfer the amount of donations received in the PM Cares Fund to the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to fight Covid-19.
In a series of tweets, Chidambaram asked, has the Ministry of Corporate Affairs suggested this fund created by the central government? If not, who made it and in what capacity? He further asked that if the central government did not create the fund then why are the Prime Minister and three ministers its trustees? Who appointed him as trustee?
