Bhubaneswar BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi and 20 of her supporters have been fined Rs 300 for not wearing a social distancing and face mask. This is the first time such a fine has been imposed on a political officer.
Bhubaneswar Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi said that the MP and 20 of his supporters were seen at the house of party president Rajnath Pradhan without wearing a mask on Wednesday. During this time, social distancing was also not followed. In fact, in the picture tweeted by the MP, she is seen standing with 30 party supporters. Only a select few of them have worn face masks. Surprisingly, even the MP himself has not worn a face mask.
In this case, the MP and his supporters were fined Rs 200 for not wearing face masks. At the same time, these people were fined Rs 100 for ignoring the rules of social distancing.
BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi took voluntary retirement from the IAS in 2018 before contesting elections last year. On this matter he said that he had to visit the party leader under very special circumstances. She wrote in a tweet, “I fully appreciate and respect people’s concern about adhering to the Covid-19 norms. It is a good sign. Accepting my duty, I voluntarily paid the fine.”
