Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin Gets Emergency Approval

Date:

Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin gets emergency approval today. An expert committee of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) on Covid-19 on Saturday recommended approval for the limited emergency use of Bharat Biotech’s anti-Corona virus vaccine covaxin in India, which would depend on certain regulatory provisions.

Official sources have given this information. A day earlier on Friday, CDSCO recommended the emergency use of the Corona vaccine ‘Covishield’ of Oxford. Now the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) will give final approval to both the vaccines.

Currently clinical trials of six Corona vaccines are going on in India. These also include covishield and covaxin. Covishield is the Austroxy vaccine, developed by AstraZeneca and Serum Institute of India, Pune. Kovaxin is an indigenous vaccine developed by Biotech of India in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research.
