The case of theft of tomatoes is on the night of July 4. Dharani, a woman farmer from Goni Somanahalli village in Hassan district, alleged that tomatoes worth Rs 2.5 lakh were stolen from her field.

She told that she had grown tomato crop on two acres of land. She was planning to harvest the tomato crop and sell it in the Bangalore market, but then the thieves got hold of the tomatoes. Let me tell you, at present the price of tomato in Bengaluru has reached above Rs 120 per kg.

Dharani has filed a complaint at the Halebidu police station. He told that we had suffered a huge loss in the bean crop, so we grew tomatoes by taking a loan. We had a good harvest and coincidentally tomato prices were high right now. But, apart from taking 50-60 sacks of tomatoes, the thieves also destroyed the rest of our standing crop.

The police say that this is the first time that a case like tomato theft has come to their station. Is being investigated. Dharani’s son also appealed to the state government for compensation and demanded an inquiry.
