UP Govt Waives Tax on Vehicles for Lockdown Period

Date:

The Uttar Pradesh government has given a big relief by waiving tax of two months for passenger vehicles and one month of freight carriers due to lockdown during the Corona transition period. The government has approved this proposal of the Transport Department under Cabinet by Circulation on Wednesday.

Organizations of passenger vehicles and freight vehicle owners have been demanding this for a long time. This decision of the government will provide relief to nearly four lakh passenger vehicles and 1.5 lakh freight car owners. However, this will cause an economic loss of about Rs 240 crore to the Transport Department.

The tax for April for freight vehicles and April and May for passenger vehicles is waived. The government has given this exemption under the Motor Vehicles Act-1997. It is believed that the freight vehicle did not run for only one month. Since May, they have been used to carry essential commodities. Similarly, passenger vehicles did not run for two months in April and May. Passenger vehicles were also started operating from June 1.
