Trump administration has suspended the temporary work visas including H-1 B till year end. As per Trump administration, the step has been taken to help Americans who have lost their jobs due to current economic crisis in the country.
The step is being seen in connection with the upcoming presidential election due in November, where employment is going to be a key issue. As of now, total 2.5 million Americans are unemployed.
The Trump Administration will reform the immigration system to prioritise the highest-skilled workers and protect American jobs, it said.
Under these reforms, the H-1B programme will prioritise those workers who are offered the highest wage, ensuring that the highest-skilled applicants are admitted, the White House said.
As per the statement released from White House, the move has been taken to protect the wages of American workers with an aim that foreign labor does not cut into American labor market.
