Tarique Anwar will become the face of Congress in Bihar Legislative Council elections. Senior party leader and member of Bihar Legislative Council Premchand Mishra said on Wednesday said that the Congress has announced former Union Minister Tarique Anwar as its candidate. In fact, speculation on several names was intensified, but the party’s national president Sonia Gandhi approved the name of Tarique Anwar. There are nine vacant seats to be contested in Bihar Legislative Council elections, where Congress is contesting on only one seat.
Anwar will file his nomination on Thursday. A statement was issued by AICC Secretary General Mukul Wasnik in this regard.
In this election, Congress is contesting along with its alliance partner RJD. RJD has fielded three of its candidates in this election. At the same time, in this election, JDU has announced the names of its three candidates and BJP has announced two candidates. Voting is due on July 9 for the biennial elections for the vacant nine seats of Bihar Legislative Council.
Tarique Anwar has been an MP from Katihar Lok Sabha constituency many times. Anwar headed the state unit of the party during 1980.
