In a further step towards early settlement of pending cases, the Supreme Court has decided to hear bail and transfer cases before a single bench. This new system will start from Wednesday.
This would be the first time a single bench would sit in the Supreme Court and settle cases. Till now at least two-member bench used to sit in the Supreme Court. This information has been given by the Supreme Court by issuing a circular. From Wednesday, the single bench will hear all the special leave petitions related to the bail for which the maximum punishment is up to 7 years.
The single bench will also hear the petition for anticipatory bail. Also, a single bench of the Supreme Court will hear cases of transfer from one place to another. It is worth mentioning that on September 17 last year, a decision was made to sit in the Supreme Court by issuing a notification. Now the Supreme Court changed its rules and implemented it.
