E-commerce platform Jiomart has fired more than 1,000 employees. Out of this, 500 people were associated with the corporate office. It is feared that the company will lay off 9,000 more employees.
The company’s decision to lay off comes after it recently acquired Metro Cash & Carry. It is claimed that Reliance mainly wants to increase its profits through this platform. Also, wants to cut down on its expenditure. That’s why she’s laying off on such a large scale. A total of more than 15,000 employees work in Jiomart. In this, at least two-thirds of the number can be cut.
60,000 contract workers have lost their jobs in the country’s IT sector in 2022-23. However, there remains a demand for vacancies in manufacturing, logistics and retail. According to the DBS report, there has been a 27 per cent decline in jobs in the IT sector in April this year as compared to April last year. This year 696 tech companies will cut jobs.
