Nepal Parliament Dissolved, Fresh Elections in November

Date:

The politics of Nepal has taken a new turn. President Vidya Devi Bhandari has announced a mid-term election, dissolving the parliament. Elections will be held on 12 and 19 November. President Vidya Devi Bhandari rejected the claims of both Sher Bahadur Deuba and KP Sharma Oli to form the government.

President Vidya Devi Bhandari had told the leaders of the opposition coalition that she will go as per the rules, when the opposition leader Sher Bahadur Deuwako took the letter including the signature of 149 MPs to make him the Prime Minister to the President

According to Maoist Center spokesperson Narayan Kazi Shrestha, the President said that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had also come to claim majority. Law will be seen in this subject.

The opposition coalition said that Ollie had not submitted the signatures of the MPs so his claim had no meaning. A letter with signature to register the opposition coalition Deuba was registered in the President’s office.

Nepal’s opposition parties had set forth a strategy in a meeting to remove Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli from the post and resolve the current political crisis. The opposition party on Friday met President Bidyadevi Bhandari and expressed reluctance to give Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli a chance of a power test to form a new government under the leadership of coalition leader Sherbahadur Deuba.

On Friday, the opposition coalition met at the residence of Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba. It was attended by top leaders of the NC, Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) and Upendra Yadav faction of Janata Samajwadi Party. Madhav Kumar Nepal, senior leader of the ruling CPN-UML also attended the meeting. All of them considered all options to remove PM Oli as he was violating constitutional rules.

Leading NC leader Gagan Thapa had told that a coalition of these political parties has also claimed the support of 149 MPs to recommend the appointment of Deuba as Prime Minister.

It was also considered in the meeting whether the impeachment motion should be filed against the President in view of the manner in which the President is supporting the unconstitutional steps of Oli. Let me tell you that a day ago, the President of Nepal Bidya Devi Bhandari had asked the political parties of the country to stake claim to form a new government. On the recommendation of Prime Minister Oli, the President has set a deadline till Friday for political parties to form a new government.
