Encounter Between Militants and Security Forces Underway in Budgam

An encounter between militants and security forces has started in Pathanpura in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir where army is giving a befitting reply. Significantly, five terrorists were killed in yesterday’s encounter. This is the fourth encounter in Shopian within the last four days. With this, the number of terrorists killed in various encounters has increased to 25 during the two weeks. Meanwhile, additional security forces have been deployed in nearby areas to prevent any kind of protests. Mobile Internet services have been discontinued to prevent any kind of rumors from spreading.

Nine terrorists were killed in two separate encounters in the district on Sunday and Monday. On Sunday, five terrorists were killed, while on Monday, four terrorists were killed by the army.

So far in 2020, security forces have killed 92 terrorists in 36 operations. While more than 126 helpers have been arrested. More than 150 militants were killed in 2019 whereas around 250 were killed in 2018. Of the 92 terrorists killed, 35 are from Hizbul only. Several commanders, including the commander-in-chief of the organization, Riyaz Naiku, has also been killed.
