There are many messages of Mukul Roy’s homecoming from the Bharatiya Janata Party. This is not only an internal development of a regional party named Trinamool Congress, but a serious warning for the world’s largest democratic party, which has been using political arrows to shoot at its opponents, the ruling party at the center is now doing the opposite.
This also means that even his own home is not safe and the skills to take care of the new members in the family have started to decline. Parivar refers to both the party and the alliance. The exit of very old and trusted ideological allies like Shiv Sena and Akali Dal from NDA also falls in this category.
In the recent past, the continuous weakening of the opposition in Indian politics was not considered good for democratic health. In Bengal, on the pretext of assembly elections, the opposition got life. The manner in which Trinamool supremo Mamta Banerjee has aggressively fought the Bharatiya Janata Party and its top men has once again proved to be baseless of the notion that power can be achieved by breaking away from the opposition parties and bringing in political workers from other states and using unaccounted money.
Mukul Roy’s position was number two in the Trinamool Congress. He has covered every part of Bengal and even the street workers recognize him. But he did not get one in the selection of the candidates. He was a national level leader while in Trinamool Congress.
But BJP sent him back to where his journey had started. He was not even promoted as the face of the Chief Minister. He had to contest the election of MLA along with his son. Such an experienced leader was not even made the Leader of Opposition.
Here, Shubhendu Adhikari, junior to him, was placed on this post. The party expected Mukul Roy, the bearer of the old tradition, to campaign condemning Mamata, but he did not do so. The friendship between his son and Mamata’s nephew may not have gone down well with the BJP.
According to sources, Mamta Banerjee will now expand her party outside Bengal to Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and North East states to surround the defeated BJP. Mukul Roy can also be made Deputy Chief Minister or he can be engaged in the work of expansion of the organization.
Apart from this, Mamta Banerjee is working to bring similar ideological parties on one platform. Among these, Mukul Roy can be entrusted with the responsibility of communicating with the Nationalist Congress Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Naveen Patnaik’s party in Odisha, Aam Aadmi Party, Akali Dal, Samajwadi Party, Telangana Rashtra Samiti, Telugu Desam and Biju Janata Dal. In Uttar Pradesh, Trinamool Congress will contest the elections with full force this time and it is almost certain that Mukul will camp there.
Mamta’s hesitation with Congress continues. The reason for this is the Left. Unless Congress leaves the Left parties, it is not possible for Mamata or any alliance under her leadership to come with Congress. Despite this, every development that strengthens the opposition should be done.
