The exercise of rejuvenation of the Congress Party has begun. In this sequence, the party has removed senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad from the post of general secretary. Along with this, the charges have also been changed in many states. According to sources, in this new exercise of reshuffle, the leaders of Rahul Gandhi’s team have been given special place.
However, according to the information, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Friday removed Ghulam Nabi Azad along with four other senior leaders from the post of general secretary, making a major reshuffle in the party organization. The Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party’s highest policy-making unit, has also been restructured.
Azad, Motilal Vora, Ambika Soni and Mallikarjun Kharge have been removed as general secretaries, according to a statement issued by the party’s general secretary KC Venugopal. Let me tell you that Azad was among the 23 leaders who wrote a letter in the past regarding organizational change. However Ghulam Nabi Azad has been given a place in the Working Committee.
Rajiv Shukla has been appointed Himachal Congress in-charge while Devendra Yadav has been appointed as Uttarakhand Congress in-charge.
A six-member special committee has also been formed after concurrence in the CWC meeting held on 24 August. This committee will support Sonia Gandhi in matters related to the organization and functioning of the party.
AK Antony, Ahmed Patel, Ambika Soni, KC Venugopal, Mukul Wasnik and Randeep Singh Surjewala are included in this special committee. Surjewala and Tariq Anwar have been appointed as the new general secretaries of the party.
