Congress has hit back at Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar for criticizing Rahul Gandhi’s statement given in London. Congress said that the Vice President as the Chairman of Rajya Sabha is an umpire, he cannot be a cheerleader for any party. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh lashed out at Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar.
Jairam Ramesh said at a book release program on Thursday that Rahul Gandhi made some important observations in his speech in London. The Vice President’s statement on this is disappointing. He further said that the office of the Vice President of India is constitutional. The constitution has given him the additional responsibility of being the chairman of the Rajya Sabha. In such a situation, they should be free from any inclination towards any political party, prejudice towards any party. There is a need to sacrifice allegiance to a political party.
Jairam Ramesh Lashes out at Dhankar
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh expressed surprise at the Vice President’s remarks on Rahul Gandhi. Said that he (Jagdeep Dhankhar) has come to the rescue of a government from which he should constitutionally keep distance. Further, Jairam Ramesh also defended Rahul Gandhi. Said, ‘Rahul Gandhi has not said anything abroad which he has not said many times here. His statement is based on facts and tells the ground reality. The Congress leader said that in the last two weeks, more than 12 Members of Parliament belonging to opposition parties have given notices of breach of privilege to protest against the silencing of their voices in Parliament.
Vice President Dhankar has Criticized Rahul Gandhi
Rahul Gandhi’s statements in London were criticized by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. He had said that if I remain silent on this issue, I will be on the wrong side of the Constitution. Dhankhar said that when the country is presiding over the G-20, some people are working overtime to defame us. Whoever is talking like this inside or outside the country is an insult to the country.
