An elderly farmer hailing from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh committed suicide by hanging himself in a mobile toilet at the UP Gate protest site on Saturday morning. Police said that a suicide note has also been recovered from the deceased.
The deceased farmer has been identified as 60-year-old Sardar Kashmir Singh. He was involved in the farmers’ agitation at UP Gate, where farmers from UP, Uttarakhand and Punjab have been sitting on dharna since 28 November. The farmers said that Sardar Kashmir Singh was upset with the agitation of farmers regarding the new agricultural laws so far.
CO (Indirapuram) Anshu Jain said, “The deceased is around 60 years old and his body was found hanging in a mobile toilet at the picket site.” He has also left a suicide note written in Punjabi language. We have spoken to the committee of farmers at UP Gate and they will take a decision regarding postmortem and other formalities soon. ”
