Modi Govt’s electric vehicle policy giving automobile companies jitters

Date:

Reports are coming that the government is considering ban sale of internal combustion engine three-wheeler by 2023 and less than 150 cc two wheeler by 2025. Leading two wheeler and three wheeler makers like Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor Company has termed the proposal ‘unrealistic’ and ‘ill timed’ as electric vehicle development is still a work in progress with huge infrastructure bottlenecks. They also warned that this may cause huge job displacement as automobile industry is one of the major job producer in the country.

On the hand government’s emphasis on EVs is also forcing Uber to try more electric vehicles join its fleet. There are plans to order ride aggregators like Uber and Ola to convert 40% of their fleet in to electric vehicles.
