KGMU Lucknow : A Story of Epic Health Infrastructure Failure

Date:

To provide treatment to the patients, the family members have to move door to door in Lucknow’s KGMU. In the scorching heat and humidity, the family members of patients are forced to carry the stretchers across the road to the main campus.

KGMU has 4500 beds. There are 450 doctors and 1000 residents to provide better treatment to the patients. There is an army of about 10 thousand regular and contract employees. The highest budgeted KGMU in Asia has an annual budget of about Rs 910 crore. Despite this, patients are not getting complete treatment facilities.

A holding area has been created in the Department of Older Mental Health in front of the trauma center. First of all patients are admitted here. After corona examination, patients are shifted to trauma and other related departments. The system of shifting patients from holding areas to departments is very bad.
