Cyclone Vayu takes a left turn. To avoid Gujarat

Date:

Residents of Gujarat, specially those living between Dwarka and Veraval region from where the storm’s eye was supposed to pass can take a sigh of relief as the “very severe” cyclone has taken a sudden left turn and may just skirt the Gujarat coast today.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the Category 2 cyclonic storm Vayu will not make landfall in Gujarat as it has moved towards the sea weakening in to a Category 1 storm. But, strong winds and rough seas are likely to continue and may cause damage. On Thursday, in a massive evacuation drive, approximately three lakh people where shifted to safer places as the cyclone inched closer towards Gujarat.
