The Congress on Wednesday rejected the commission formed by the government on minimal support price( MSP), describing it as “ a farcical attempt that aims at trivialising the serious issues concerning the agricultural extremity in the country ”.
All India Kisan Congress Chairman, Sukhpal Singh Khaira in a statement said, “ There’s no citation of legal guarantee for the MSP in the terms of reference, therefore defeating the veritably purpose of setting it up. ” He further said, “ The purpose of the commission appears to lessen and sabotage the interests of the growers for which they offered a kick for 378 days on the outskirts of Delhi during which about 750 growers lost their lives and about,000 were charged with false cases. ”
Khaira condemned the rejection of Punjab and Punjabi growers from the commission and said, “ Keeping Punjabi growers out of any husbandry/ ranch commission isn’t respectable, as they’ve given their sweat and blood for the green revolution in the country and assured food security to the nation when it was importing wheat from abroad ”.
He also questioned the nominal representation of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha( SKM) on the commission. Khaira also questioned the appointment of former Agriculture Secretary Sanjay Aggarwal as the president of the commission, who, besides being the mastermind of the three ranch laws, “ has no practical and grassroots knowledge or experience of husbandry and husbandry ”.
