Fact Check: Is 750MW Rewa solar plant Asia’s Largest?

Date:

Yesterday PM Modi inaugurated 750 MW solar power project in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh and claimed it to be Asia’s largest solar power plant. In his virtual inauguration speech and PMO tweet, it is said that “Today Rewa has created history. He said that solar energy is going to be a major medium of energy needs not only today but in the 21st century. Because solar energy is pure, pure and secure.”

“Today, Rewa has scripted history. Rewa is identified with the name of Maa Narmada and the white tiger. Now, the name of Asia’s largest solar power project has also been added to it,” he said.

But PM Modi’s claim that it is Asia’s largest solar plant have not correct as this is not even India largest solar power plant.

Congress leader DK Shivkumar took on PM Modi on this issue and tweeted “BJP Central Govt is claiming today that it inaugurated Asia’s Largest Solar Plant of 750 MW at Rewa, MP What then is the 2000 MW Solar Plant in Pavagada, Karnataka which was built in just 3 years by @INCKarnataka govt and has been operational since 2018?”

Today former Congress president Rahul Gandhi re-tweeted PMO’s Tweet on it. He captioned it, “असत्याग्रही!”
